The end of the patent war Apple – Samsung?

An unbelievable moment will take place in San Francisco (CA) within the 90 next days.

After one year of patent wars, Samsung’s CEO Gee-Sung Choi is to meet with Apple CEO Tim Cook to discuss settlements of a few patent cases that are taking place across the globe since April 2011 18th. Each company won and loose some disputs, but until now they don’t find any solution to end this strange story of patents.

Even if the meeting is basically an optional and voluntary one, suggested by the federal judge Lucy Koh, neither party really had much of a choice in the matter. If one of them would decide or just show signs of not turning up, it would potentially be accused of being obstructive.

Both Apple and Samsung have told that court:
As directed by the Court, Apple and Samsung are both willing to participate in a Magistrate Judge Settlement Conference with Judge Spero as mediator. At Apple, the chief executive officer and general counsel are the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Apple during the upcoming settlement discussions. At Samsung, the chief executive officer and general counsel are also the appropriate decision-makers, and they will represent Samsung during these settlement discussions.”

While it is no guarantee that any conclusion will be reached to the ongoing legal battles, this is a step in the right direction and any possibility of a real outcome to the situation should be grabbed with both hands.

It should be noted that Apple and Samsung are currently in dispute in a dozen countries.
