The world’s thinnest disc drive: SE-2188BB

Samsung has just introduced the world’s thinnest optical drive especially made for tablets.

Even if the media world is moving toward downloadable content and cloud storage, the firm is really confident to continue to manufacture such device. Samsung though about those large numbers of tablet users who still have a significant amount of movies and data stored on singular optical disks.

The Samsung SE-2188BB was specially designed to bring that specific media to tablets and ultrabooks, that are both known as devices having enough thin design. It could be used in the Android Honeycomb 3.1 or above, and can handle a variety of media at high speeds, including 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD ± R recording, 5X DVD-RAM recording, 6X DVD + R Dual layer recording, 6X DVD-R Dual layer recording, 8X DVD + RW recording and 6X DVD-RW recording.

Samsung claimed that SE-218BB (shown on the picture below) is approximately 18% thinner than conventional DVD Writer and 8% lighter than other similar products. It will also bring an USB that will provide both power and data connectivity.
