500 000 Apps on Google Play

Google Play, the google online applications store for Android device, has now more than 500 000 applications available worldwide, and only 28% of them are paid applications!

According to Distimo, its growth is much more higher than that of the Apple App Store. During the last four months, Google Play hosted more than 100,000 applications against 63,000 more over the App Store for the same period.

Google Play Store also surpasses 15 billion app downloads, “a few weeks ago.”For a short comparison, Apple reached the same number of downloads in July 2011 and recently surpassed 25 billion downloads in March.

While Apple is serving about 1.25 billion app downloads per month, Google is seeing about 1 billion downloads. So there is still a gap in aggregated downloads between the two platforms, but wa can assume that it will disappear really soon.
