First Google Driverless car licenced in Nevada

Two months ago, the Nevada’s Department of Transportation approved and set regulations that would allow self-driving vehicles on the state’s roadways. Nevada has issued the first license  for Google self-driving cars after conducting tests demonstrating that the car is really safe for being tested on public streets.

However, there are some restrictions:

1. two people have to be inside the car at all time: one person to take the wheel in case of an emergency, and another one to monitor a computer screen. As soon as the “driver” touches the brake or the wheel, he takes control of the vehicle.

2. test vehicles will have red license plates and an infinity symbol to design them as self-driving prototypes.

Google’s self-driving cars use a laser radar on the roof of the vehicle to detect obstacles, pedestrians and other cars. With the help of an embedded GPS and a little bit of artificial intelligence on a computer, the car can drive itself with quite no human intervention even if a man is sitting inside.
