Wednesday, June 6th, Google will reveal the new release of its Google Maps service. This app will feature news functionnalities to help “people find easily their way, as well in the true world as in the virtual one”.  All these new features will be presented by Brian McCleendon, vice president of Google Maps and Google Earth. It seems the both applications will merge together and offer a 3D rendering of Google Maps.

Anyway, the mountain view firm doesn’t want to wait their Google I/O summit that will held from June 27 to 29. According to some people, Google plans to stay ahead of expected announcements from Apple at WWDC on June 11th. Given that Apple is widely rumored to drop Google Maps in iOS6 in favor of its own solution with a focus on 3D maps. It seems that Apple would have gathered the skills of its acquisitions in recent years, including Placebase, Poly9 Globe and C3 Technologies.
