Science Acquires PinPuff, a “Klout for PINTEREST”

Science, the eight-month-old  hyperactive Los Angeles incubator from former Myspace CEO Mike Jones, makes its first acquisition today.  He just buys PINPUFF, a Klout-like startup for Pinterest, launched by a 23-year-old from India, and moves its founder Gaurav Sharma to its California headquarters.

PINPUFF is a fast-growing “Klout for Pinterest” that measures and tracks the influence of Pinterest users — called “Pinfluence” in Pinpuff parlance.  Pinpuff’s algorithms take into consideration a person’s interests on Pinterest, as well as followers, follower count, pins, repins, comments and likes to calculate a score from below 40 to above 70. The average is currently 32.

Then Pinpuff determine monetary values to the score that vary with the category of the content being pinned and awards perks. The company was launched only in February of this year.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed yet , but Mike Jones, the CEO of Science, says that this acquisition will be used to help build out other businesses in Science’s portfolio. He also wrote in a blog post:

Now that Pinterest is nearly as ubiquitous as Facebook and Twitter, and  other platforms like The Fancy and Supply are rising through the ranks, we can tap into the technology that Pinpuff has built to create a true gauge of reach – one that goes beyond clicks, page views, and static traffic numbers, and one that measures the power of influence.”
