Yahoo password hacked !

Yahoo! has just confirmed that one of its databases was hacked. Users can now check if their e-mail address was assigned or not.

The target of these attacks was more especially the Yahoo! Voice VoIP service, which offers users to choose a phone number and make calls. It seems that Yahoo! didn’t secure storage of information. The Sunnyvale firm has contacted users to ask them to change their password.

Note that Yahoo! Voice is also a service available in France. It doesn’t necessarily need to have an account of type@yahoo.com. Hacking this database may therefore be also undermined several other user accounts. According to Yahoo!, it may have infected the following accounts as well:

  • 137 559 accounts on yahoo.com ,
  • 106 873 accounts on gmail.com ,
  • 55,148 accounts on hotmail.com ,
  • 25 521 accounts on at aol.com ,
  • 8 536 accounts on comcast.net ,
  • 6 395 accounts on msn.com ,
  • 5 193 accounts on sbcglobal.net ,
  • 4,313 accounts on live.com ,
  • 3 029 accounts on verizon.net ,
  • and 2 847 accounts on bellsouth.net.

To check if your email is on this database, the publisher SucuriMalware Labs has developed a online form in which you simply enter your email address, and you will automatically get back a message that will let you know the result.

After analyzing the hacked files, the company ESET reveals that the most popular passwords are: “123456“, “password“, “welcome“, “ninja“, “abc123“. So to avoid risks to be hacked, choose another one!
