Windows 8 release date announced

Microsoft has just announced, Windows 8 will be available on 26th October this year, which is a Friday! Just in Time for Halloween!

We already knew for two weeks that it was expected for late October, but no one had a specific date to mark on their calendars. Now it is! Steven Sinofsky, President of the Windows and Windows Live division, revealed it during the Microsoft’s annual sales meeting.

No mention was made regarding versions, but we can check that it will concern the RT version of the Surface and also upgrade from previous windows. And the premium Windows 8 Pro model will probably follow approximately 90 days later.

Windows 8 will be available as a downloadable update for all Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 users for just $40 – a dramatic reduction in cost when compared to previous Windows versions. This low price has certainly been influenced by Apple’s similar move with OS X Lion, and won’t last though, as it’s only good until January 31 2013.
