iPad Mini: the new iPod Touch?

Despite Apple’s silence on the matter, persistent rumors reports that a new Apple Tablet called iPad Mini will hit the store later this year.

The forthcoming iPad Mini will look more like a scaled-up version of the iPod Touch than a scaled-down iPad. We don’t know too much about the specifications of this new tablet, but it seems to be planned for launch in late September, perhaps at the same expected release date as the new iPhone 5.

The 7.85-inch iPad Mini will feature slimmer bezels on the side, a microphone on the back,  and separate volume controls. Despite this, it is still expected to have an aspect ratio of 4:3, as the rest of the iPad family. The iPad Mini will probably be more thin and more light than the others iPad: perhaps 7.2-7.3-inch thickness, and 1.43 lbs, and it will receive the name of “iPad Air“.

The iPad Mini is expected to rival Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire and will reportedly provide 16GB of memory for a price of $299.
