Amazon New Kindle Fire 2

The new Kindle Fire, announced by Amazon last Thursday,  is slightly lighter (395g ) than last year’s version.

It will still features a 7-inch full color display, 1024 x 600 pixels, with 170ppi, including an IPS LCD display technology, with a multi-touch capacitive screen.

It has a reportedly 44 percent more powerful and faster processor :1.2GHz v 1.0, with twice as much RAM, and will have more battery life that should offer 8.5 hours of continuous usage. The other change comes in the form of a front-facing camera.

It will  run a newer version of Android (4.0 – v 2.3).  But as Amazon is using its own version of Android, it doesn’t log on to Google’s servers.

In addition to the new hardware upgrades, the new Kindle Fire, also called Kindle Fire 2, is also getting access to Amazon’s new software features, such as X-Ray for Movies, X-Ray for Books, Immersion Reading, Whispersync for Voice, and Kindle FreeTime features.

Amazon has also slashed the price of the hardware, which is only at $159.

By offering more features, streamlined access to media and lower prices, Amazon is trying to draw users into its ecosystem of online content, shopping and data storage.
