Amazon New Kindle Paperwhite e-ink reader

The Kindle Paperwhite is a frontlit E-Ink reader with a 1024 x 768 pixel display – that’s 212 pixels per inch, a 62 percent increase on the previous Amazon Kindle. The display is a super sharp with excellent contrast.

It’s also the first eReader to feature capacitve touch, rather than infrared touch, which makes for more a thinner overall design. It’s 9.1mm thin, with a very thin bezel, and you can adjust the level (25 in total) of the display with your finger. It is light as a feather — if a feather happens to weigh 7.5 ounces, and really comfortable to hold.  It will run on base of Android.

A new feature called “Time to Read” uses your reading speed to let you know you when you will finish a chapter in a book on the Paperwhite.

And speaking of hours, Amazon says that the Paperwhite boasts 8-week battery life, even with the light on, which is over 1,300 hours !

The company will sell two versions,

one with Wi-Fi for $119,

– and another one with Wi-Fi plus 3G cellular for $179.

Prices climb to $139 and $199, respectively, if you order the Kindles without what Amazon refers to as “special offers” — meaning ads.

Paperwhite is the Kindle we’ve always wanted to build. The technology didn’t exist to build a display with this level of contrast, resolution, brightness and battery life, so our engineers invented it,” said Amazon’s founder and CEO Jeff Bezos
