Samsung Galaxy Android Camera launches this week

Galaxy Camera is Samsung’s first camera, and world’s second, to be powered by Google’s Android mobile operating system. It was unveiled by the South Korean manufacturer at the IFA 2012 held in August. It is expected to go on sale in the US this week.

It is, essentially, a hybrid between a high performance compact camera and a Galaxy smartphone, running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and sporting a 4.77-inch HD Super Clear LCD touchscreen. It will come with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor inside, and the camera functionality offers a 21x optical zoom lens with a typical f/2.8 max aperture and a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor.

Others features will include:

  • 8GB memory,
  • memory card slot,
  • HDMI 1.4,
  • 10 modes, Share Shot, Smart Pro feature, auto-cloud back-up,
  • 3G and 4G connectivity,
  • WiFi a/b/g/n, GPS/GLONASS,
  • Bluetooth 4.0,
  • the usual Google services,
  • a 1650mAh battery

The Galaxy Camera presented a Photo Wizard that includes a set of 35 photo editing features as brightness, contrast and filters,, whilst the Movie Wizard enables the user to create and edit videos easily via the touch screen. Finally, all of Android’s usual sharing options are on offer, so it’s possible to fire off photos and videos to Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or other social networks, along with WiFi Direct for device-to-device sharing.
