Corning to unveil GORILLA GLASS 3 at CES 2013

Few things are more frustrating than scratching the display of your expensive smartphone or tablet. Get now ready for a new ultra scratch resistant glass, to save your phone or tablet.

2012 was the year of Gorilla Glass 2, which was already quite resistant to scrapes, scratches and even moderate bashing, willing or otherwise.

Corning-Gorilla-Glass-3Corning said yesterday it plans to introduce Gorilla Glass 3, the next generation of its high durability glass for mobile devices and other products, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week. The glass is now three times more scratch resistant than the previous generation, and 40 percent fewer scratches will be visible to the human eye. Those improvements are supposedly the result of what the company is calling “Native Damage Resistance” (NDR), which is implemented in the new material.

This year at CES, Corning will demonstrate its industry leadership in specialty glass and fiber optic technologies with the introduction of two products designed to enhance and extend the capabilities of consumers’ favorite devices,” said Wendell P. Weeks, Corning chairman, chief executive officer, and president.

Corning said full product details will be released on January 7.
