Pinterest first acquisition is the recipe site Punchfork

The social site PINTEREST make its first purchase, choosing the food recipe bookmarking network PUNCHFORK.

punchfork_stickerPunchfork is a two-and-a-half-year-old recipe and cooking social network with an eerily Pinteresty-looking style. As part of the acquisition, the Punchfork site, API, and mobile apps will “soon be retiring.” In other words, they will be shut down so its one-man team can focus on improving Pinterest.

Punchfork CEO Jeff Miller said he is joining the engineering team at Pinterest. He also added that moving the entire site and community to Pinterest made the most sense:. “Initially, support for Punchfork will continue, but we will soon be retiring the Punchfork site, API and mobile apps,” Miller wrote in a note to the Punchfork community. “We believe that a unified destination benefits our users in the long run, and the Punchfork team will focus on contributing to Pinterest as the premier platform for discovering and sharing new recipes and other interests on the web.”

While details on the integration of the two sites are scarce, Punchfork will likely find it easy to set up shop on Pinterest. It already has a very Pinterest-esque layout, with tiled images showcasing recipes for almond cupcakes, spinach feta turkey burgers, meatball sub casserole, and gluten-free cinnamon buns.
