Viadeo acquires French startup PEALK

Viadeo, the France-based professional social network that competes with LinkedIn, has announced today the acquisition of the startup Pealk, the self-styled “#1 Hunting App” for LinkedIn.

pealk_2The French company Pealk built a headhunter app which allowed recruiters to search for people on LinkedIn, using the legal access to the LinkedIn API that they had been granted to provide users with the same functionality that recruiters pay upwards of $7,000 per year for.

In last June its access to LinkedIn’s API was revoked because it reportedly abuse its API access and violating LinkedIn’s API Terms of Use. Pealk was built entirely on LinkedIn which lead the company to discontinue its app. Less than 6 months later, the startup has been acquired by Viadeo, the French professional social network, for an undisclosed sum.

Professional social network Viadeo plans to use the app for its own service and take advantage of its features. Such features include Easy Search, Profile Organizer, Interaction Tracker and Key Analytics.

We’re very proud and pleased with this buyout, which we consider to be the happy ending to an exciting adventure,” said Boris Golden, Pealk’s CEO, about the acquisition. “It’s also the beginning of a new adventure for us, since there are plenty of applications just waiting to be invented that will give professionals more ways to unlock Viadeo’s full potential!”
