NEC unveils MEDIA W, a smartphone with dual 4.3″ screen

Japanese carrier NTT Docomo and NEC has announced Medias W (N-05E) in the docomo Spring 2013 line-up of handsets.

The Media W is a folding smartphone running Android, which comes with not one but two 4.3 inch displays, each one having a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels.
The device can be folded in such a way that it shows only one screen, but when users need extra space, they can open both and enjoy all that added visual real estate. When open, the device serves up roughly 5.6 inches in diagonal screen real estate, and measures up at 64mm in width when shut.


All its others specifications are fairly standard:

  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean,
  • a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU,
  • an 8-megapixel camera with LED Flash,BSI sensor,
  • 1GB of RAM,
  • 16GB of storage memory that’s expandable via microSD cards,
  • and a 2,100mAh battery.

The NEC Medias W comes in Black color. It will be available in Japan this April, with an unspecified price tag, but there’s no word on availability in other territories.
