Surface Pro arrives at Microsoft Store

Microsoft’s Surface Pro has landed a bit ahead of schedule at Microsoft stores even if technically, you can’t buy it until next Saturday. Some locations, as the store near Beverly Hills in California, now has the Pro slated on display and available for anyone to use, but there’s no reliable way to index which stores or what ones it’ll be coming to early.

Surface-Pro-630x354The Surface Pro is an Intel-based hybrid PC/tablet that Microsoft is positioning more as an ultrabook than a tablet. It will have half the battery life of the Surface RT, due to its use of an Intel Core i5 chip. But it will be more powerful and have a better display than its Surface RT sibling.

The 64 GB version of the Surface Pro, running on Windows 8 Pro, will be priced at $899 while the 128 GB version has a price tag of $999, although up to 45 GB of storage will be taken up by the OS, recovery partition and pre-installed software, out of the box. So, just remember, if you do pick up a 64GB version, you’ll only find 23GB of usable space, and the 128GB model will have 83GB of free storage.

surface-proThe Surface Pros will be sold in the U.S. and Canada through all Microsoft retail stores, microsoftstore.com and at Staples and Best Buy in the U.S., as well as from “a number of locations in Canada,” according to the company.
