GALAXY S4: Samsung’s newest smartphone revealed

The Galaxy S4 (or Galaxy S IV, as it is officially known) was released Thursday evening at an event at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The fourth in the increasingly popular Galaxy S line is Samsung’s latest attack at Apple and its iPhone.

The rumors were true, and more. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is the followup to the hugely successful S3, which hit 100 million sales in January 2013. It’s a slim phone with a big screen, a good camera and a fast chip. It runs 4G LTE through 327 mobile operators in 155 countries.
It drops in the end of April. Available in “black mist and white frost“.

For each of us, life is a journey. What we want is a device that can join us in our journey,
Samsung’s CEO JK Shin said on stagelater adding that
We will make life richer, simpler, and fuller.”

Samsung-Galaxy-S4-Noir-BlancThe Galaxy S4 has some features that really make it stand out, including:

  • a 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, 1,920×1,080 screen, at 441 pixels per inch
  • a quad-core processor (either a Samsung Exynos 5 or Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, depending on region)
  • 2GB of RAM
  • a big 2,600mAh battery
  • 6, 32, or 64GB of storage (plus a microSD slot if you want to add more)
  • a 13 megapixel camera (as compared with the iPhone 5’s 8 megapixel camera)
  • 7.9mm thin

The Galaxy S4 will run Android 4.2.2 “Jelly Bean,” with Samsung’s familiar TouchWiz skin loaded on top.

The phone has a bunch of wow-factor features. It has simultaneous translation to and from nine languages, for both spoken words and text. It’s super-syncable, for sharing pictures, videos, and music. There’s a group play feature that turns a group of phones into a stereo system, each phone broadcasting a different stereo band.

And you can also forget the touchscreen! Maybe not entirely, but with the Galaxy S4, Samsung is rethinking the way we interact with our phones. It has features that allow you to control the phone with waving and tilting motions. For example, the phone tracks your eye movements for pausing films you stop watching midway. It scrolls by tilting, and reads texts to you!

A new app called S Health works as a kind of fitness diary. The phone comes with a built-in pedometer to track your steps, and you can input every meal you eat and the Galaxy S4 will estimate the number of calories you are consuming (and burning) on a daily basis.

We focused on fun, relationships, convenience and health with the Galaxy S4,” said David Park, marketing manager of Samsung Electronics.
