Pinterest has confirmed today its purchase of Livestar, a mobile/local recommendations application founded by Microsoft alum Fritz Lanman, who is also angel investor itself. He has backed several startup like Square, Getaround and Pinterest.

livestarLivestar, the social recommendation app gave users ideas on the best content around them, and lets you see reviews for restaurants, movies, and music from reputable sources such as newspapers, local news blogs, Facebook friends, or people in your contact list.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the purchase is more about the team of engineers than the service itself. A Pinterest spokesperson told in a statement: “We think the Livestar team is a natural fit for Pinterest because of their commitment to inspiring people to do things in their everyday lives through social and expert recommendations.”

pinterest livestarLivestar will be closing down, less than a year after launching in June 2012, and the three-engineer team will join Pinterest in the coming weeks. CEO and founder Fritz Lanman will not be joining the team. He’ll move on to another yet-to-be-announced startup, while maintaining an advisory role at Pinterest.
