Earth Day 2013 honoured with Google’s animation of seasons

Earth Day is 43 years’ old today. Google is commemorating this millestones by one of Google’s annual doodles dedicated to the event.

This is Google’s 13th Earth Day doodle. Today’s elaborate animation shows the cycle of seasons represented by the rising and falling sun and moon. Users can play and pause the moon and sun on four different images.

The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970. It was founded by former U.S. senator Gaylord Nelson, who was inspired by the passion of the anti-war movement. Nelson originally proposed a “national teach-in on the environment,” according to the Earth Day Network, which organizes grass roots events for the day.
Earth Day is held every year on 22 April to highlight environmental issues, with events held around the world to show support.

On Earth Day 2013, organizers have focused on global warming as a top issue. Planetary carbon dioxide concentrations are the highest they’ve been in the past 800,000 years, an ignominious milestone for Earth Day 2013. Still, the world is making some progress toward addressing global warming.
